Water Advisory Lifted; Tests Clear Supply

LEWISTOWN — A “do not drink” advisory issued this week for Mifflin County Municipal Authority customers has been lifted after testing found no contamination in the water supply.

Authority officials said the issue, first reported April 18, stemmed from a tractor-trailer accident that entered a reservoir, raising concerns that fuel or other fluids could have leaked into the source water.

Customers had been instructed not to drink the water and not to boil it while the situation was assessed.

The authority said four required water samples were collected and tested under the direction of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The first samples were taken within 20 minutes of plant production, followed by a second set 24 hours later.

All test results showed no detection of volatile organic compounds, the authority said, indicating the water is safe.

Officials said residents may immediately resume normal use of tap water.

The authority said it will continue to monitor the system and conduct additional testing if needed.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” officials said.

The advisory affected customers served by the Mifflin County Municipal Authority, which is based in Milroy. Residents with questions can contact the authority at 717-248-0165 or 717-667-3918.
