Juniata County Proclaims June as Dairy Month

BY BRIAN CARSON

The Juniata County Commissioners on Tuesday proclaimed June as Dairy Month, recognizing the county’s dairy industry and the promotion work local dairy representatives do in schools, stores, and at the Juniata County Fair.

Commissioners also appointed a new library board member, ratified a $71,079.10 community development payment, and accepted two county employee resignations.

Jena Rissler, the Juniata County Dairy Queen, presented Proclamation No. 2026-8.

Rissler told commissioners her role includes visiting Juniata Elementary and East Juniata Elementary to teach students in kindergarten through fifth grade about dairy and nutrition.

She said dairy representatives also take part in grocery store promotions and appear at the Juniata County Fair, where the program has a milkshake trailer and an educational table with a spin wheel for children to answer dairy questions.

Commissioners appointed Laurie Kepner of Port Royal, to the Juniata County Library Board of Trustees.

Kepner will fill the seat of outgoing board member Rob Digon. Her term will run from June 1, 2026, to June 1, 2029.

Commissioners also ratified a $71,079.10 Community Development Block Grant payment submitted by the Juniata County Planning and Community Development Department. The payment went to C&R Directional Boring LLC.

The board accepted the resignation of Macenzie Rohrer, a part-time 911 telecommunicator, effective at the end of business on May 21.

After the vote, Commissioner Alice Gray noted a recent visit to the county’s 911 center and praised employees for providing coverage around the clock.

Commissioners also accepted the resignation of Myessiah Herrold, an intake caseworker with Juniata County Children and Youth, effective at the end of business on June 5.

The board approved payment of checks submitted by the Fiscal Office.

The Salary Board, Retirement Board, or Board of Elections conducted no business.
