Drinking Water Warning - Do Not Drink the Water Notice
April 18, 2026 - Issue Time: 10:30 AM
MCMA is committed to protecting public health, safety, and the security of our community’s water infrastructure. All information released regarding the April 17, 2026 incident is being provided with system security, public health and safety, as our highest priority.
The wreckage from the vehicle incident on US HWY 322 at the Laurel Creek Filtration Plant (LCFP) April 17, 2026 has been cleared.
Due to an electrical transformer surge which resulted in a catastrophic loss to one of the primary alternate water sources, it could not be utilized to meet water system demands. As a result, water levels cannot be sustained to supply all customers with water without drawing from the Laurel Creek Reservoir. The LCFP is scheduled to resume water withdraw from the reservoir and treatment, and begin distributing to the water system Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The water in the distribution system prior to the Do Not Drink Notice meets all water quality requirements. It was drawn, treated, and stored prior to the accident April 17, 2026.
MCMA is working closely with the PA Department of Environmental Protection and the Mifflin County Emergency Management team to actively monitor and resolve the situation.
All resources are working around the clock to expedite water quality testing. Emergency procedures have been activated to analyze samples already collected. Those results are expected to be available within the next 48 hours.
Alternative water resources will be available at locations to be announced.
Updates will be posted and distributed to media outlets as available.
