Shaffer’s Two-Hitter Leads Mifflin County; Cubbison, Kauffman Place Fourth at Haverford
LEWISTOWN — Liam Shaffer threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Mifflin County to a 4-0 win over Mount Union on Friday.
Shaffer went the distance, allowing just two hits with no walks while facing 24 batters. He threw 83 pitches, 61 for strikes.
Mifflin County (4 runs, 8 hits, 1 error) broke through early, scoring three runs in the second inning and adding another in the third. Mount Union was limited to two hits and committed two errors.
Karl Shirey led the Huskies at the plate with two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Easton Lepley, Evan Strohecker, Joel Beamer, Lincoln Ruble, Madden Weaver and Reese Christine each added a hit. Shirey finished with three total bases.
Jamon Ranck took the loss for Mount Union, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked two.
In track and field, Mifflin County turned in a pair of strong performances at the Brooks Haverford Distance Classic. Reese Cubbison placed fourth in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 4:14.56, while Wyatt Kauffman took fourth in the 800 in 1:53.95.
