The MJR Weekend Outlook: May 1–3, 2026

Welcome to your weekend guide for Mifflin and Juniata counties. After a busy April, May kicks off with high-speed racing, local athletic milestones, and community gatherings across the region. Here is what is on the radar for the next few days.

The Main Event: Port Royal Speedway

The "Speed Palace" is back in action this Saturday, May 2, with a packed lineup that is sure to draw a crowd. If you're heading to the track, expect a night of high-stakes dirt track racing featuring:

  • 410 Sprints (h)
  • Super Late Models (h)
  • PASS 305 Sprints

Pits open early, and the atmosphere in Port Royal is always electric when the 410s take the clay. It’s a prime weekend to catch the PA Posse in their element.

On the Field: Local Sports

It’s a transitional time for local athletics as spring seasons move toward the postseason.

  • Tennis: Keep an eye on the Mifflin County Tennis squad as they prepare for the District VI Team Championships starting Monday in State College.
  • Registration Alert: For parents and student-athletes, Fall Sports Registration for the 2026-27 season officially opens today, May 1. If you have a student interested in any fall sport, remember those early August deadlines come fast.

Around the County: Community & Events

  • Juniata Valley Winery: Looking for something a bit more relaxed? The winery is gearing up for their Mother’s Day events, but it’s a great weekend to stop by for a tasting or to check out their local gift selections.
  • America250 Preparations: In Mifflintown and surrounding areas, planning continues for the America250PA celebrations. Local historical societies are active this weekend with displays and planning sessions—a great time to get involved in the county’s heritage.
  • Shopping & Markets: Today, May 1, marks the start of several regional craft and vendor markets. If you’re looking to get a jump on Mother’s Day shopping, local boutiques in Lewistown and Mifflintown are fully stocked with spring collections.

Whether you're at the track or enjoying a quiet weekend at home, we've got you covered.
