Mifflin County Board of Commissioners Announces Receipt of $1.49 Million TASA Award to Improve Safety and Connectivity Along Electric Avenue/South Logan Boulevard

LEWISTOWN - The Mifflin County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the award of $1,489,740 through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety and improve community connectivity along Electric Avenue/South Logan Boulevard.

The project will construct new 6-foot-wide bike lanes and 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalks extending from Ort Valley Road to Derry Park Drive. In addition to improving transportation options, the project includes ADA-compliant ramps at business entrances and street intersections to ensure accessibility for all residents and visitors.

These improvements will create a safer, more connected route for pedestrians and cyclists while supporting students who walk or bike to school. The project is intended to encourage active transportation, improve mobility, and strengthen connections between neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and recreational areas throughout the corridor.

"The Board of Commissioners is committed to investing in infrastructure that improves quality of life and public safety for our residents," Commissioner Rob Postal said. "We are grateful to PennDOT for recognizing the importance of this corridor and helping make these long-needed improvements possible. This project will provide important accessibility upgrades and create safer travel options for families, students, and community members throughout the area."

Commissioner Kevin Kodish focused on the project's economic and community connectivity aspect.

Commissioner Noah Wise also praised the project.

The Board recognizes the importance of modern, accessible transportation infrastructure and believes this project represents a significant investment in the future of Mifflin County's communities.
